Carmen Ong is a senior at Drake University where she currently pursues a double major in International Business and Marketing. Carmen hails from a culturally diverse country, Malaysia, which is approximately 9000 miles away from the United States. She is multilingual- fluent in three different languages and two other Chinese dialects. Prior to transferring to Drake, Carmen had the opportunity to travel around different countries such as Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, and Western Europe to gain cultural experiences and international exposure.
 
At Drake, Carmen is actively involved on campus in various student organizations. She is currently serving as an active member in the American Marketing Association of Iowa Chapter and is involved in the Drake Coca Cola Project to develop Integrated Marketing Solutions and Strategies. Additionally, she is also serving as the President of Malaysian Students’ Association (Drake MASA). Through her involvements in Drake MASA, Carmen seeks to spread more awareness and knowledge of Malaysian culture to the Drake community by hosting events and celebrations related to home such as the Lunar New Year and Malaysia Day. Apart from her involvements in student organizations, Carmen is also a student grader for Dr Marcia Laugerman in her Introduction to Statistics class, as well as a student supervisor at Drake Catering Services – SODEXO where she 
 
Apart from the curricular opportunities Carmen had at Drake, she was also able to develop professionally through various networking events and internship opportunities through the Drake College of Business and Public Administration School. This past summer, she interned at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines as a Digital Marketing Intern. She was heavily involved in the website redesign project, curating content for social media platforms and executing email marketing for other members of the bank.
 
As for leisure, Carmen mostly enjoys cooking to curb her homesickness. She also frequently visits local restaurant around Des Moines to explore new flavors and food. Her favorite places to go are St Kilda, Scenic Route Bakery, and Hana Ramen Sushi Des Moines. Occasionally, she would also play badminton with her friends, create calligraphy pieces and digital art on Procreate. 
 
Carmen plans to explore opportunities in marketing agencies in the next step of her career to further gain exposure to different clients and industries in the hopes of adding to her repertoire of skills. She also wants to further explore opportunities in integrated marketing communications strategies and creative designing in addition to digital marketing.
