Carmen Ong is a senior at Drake University pursuing a double degree in International Business and Marketing. Throughout her time at Drake, she worked part-time as a student supervisor at the concession stands and a barista at a coffee shop on Drake campus. These experiences allowed Carmen to develop strong communicating and multitasking skills. The classes Carmen took at Drake included Integrated Marketing Communications, Consumer Behavior, International Management, Photoshop, and Web Design, which she could effectively apply her knowledge in internships, projects, and future careers.

As a highly self-motivated student, Carmen Ong is pursuing a BSBA in International Business and Marketing at Drake University, Des Moines Iowa. She transferred to Drake in fall 2016 from Malaysia and will be graduating this coming May. Carmen has consistently maintained her GPA every semester being on the Dean’s List, and she will be graduating with Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.86.

Carmen first started her work experience as a Sales and Marketing Intern at FM Multimodal Services in Malaysia. It was a transportation and logistics company where she created prospect lists through sales research, made cold calls, and created marketing presentations for potential clients. In summer 2017, Carmen had the opportunity to work at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines as a digital marketing intern. The bank is a member-owned cooperative that provides financial services to its members and eligible housing associates. During her internship, Carmen actively partook in the bank’s website redesign project, created email automation and bank events through Marketo, sourced industry-related articles for Twitter and LinkedIn accounts, and designed ads through Facebook Business Manager for the bank.

Other work experiences Carmen have included student supervisor at the Drake concession stands where she led the delegation of tasks among other concession assistants and maintained fiscal integrity within concession stands. Additionally, she also works as a student grader for Dr. Marcia Laugerman for the Introduction to Statistics class where she grades student assignments in a timely manner and assists the professor in formulating grading criteria.

While at Drake, Carmen was involved in various events planning and projects. She was the Vice Organizing Chairperson for Malaysian Night in 2017. I was responsible for supporting the Organizing Chairperson when necessary and maintaining effective communications among team members for efficient teamwork. Apart from that, I partook in the Drake American Marketing Association’s Coca Cola project in 2018 where I developed an integrated marketing campaign for the new Diet Coke flavors and assisted in designing marketing materials for the project. Additionally, I was selected as one of the twelve marketing students to represent the College of Business and Public Administration for Murphy Cup. Essentially, it is a marketing competition held with Creighton University to develop a marketing campaign for a selected client. Our client during Murphy Cup 2018 was the United Health Group.
